Can You Hack it in Hade Edge this August?

The NSPCC is calling for would-be hikers to get their walking boots on and sign up for the HACK – Hike Against Cruelty to Kids – a 25 mile hiking challenge starting at Hade Edge, and running through some of the most stunning countryside in the area.
The fourth annual HACK takes place on Saturday 30 August 2008 and is a 25-mile circular sponsored walk. The route passes through the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country in West Yorkshire starting at Hade Edge, Holmfirth and includes parts of the Kirklees Way, the Pennine Way and the Trans Pennine Trail.
The HACK is the brain child of Tony Thomas, a Yorkshire NSPCC volunteer, who told Holmfirthweb.com: “I am thrilled that the HACK is now in its fourth year, and continues to go from strength to strength. The 25 mile walk covers some of the most beautiful scenery in Yorkshire and the Peak District. It is not only a great day out , but also a great opportunity to meet people, get fit and raise money for the NSPCC.
Last year saw 457 walkers undertake the challenge, the goal for this year is 700!
If you are interested in taking part in the challenge and making it an even bigger success than last year, please visit www.canuhackit.co.uk for a registration form or contact the NSPCC Appeals Team on 0113 2299 313. The registration fee is £12.50 (non-refundable) and includes refreshments along the route.
A 25 mile walk is a physical challenge, and the NSPCC recommends people who register, undertake some training before hand. Average walkers should complete the walk comfortably within 12 hours with more experienced faster walkers aiming to complete the walk within eight hours.
