Meltham Greenway Improvements – Special Ceremony
Posted by patrick under: News .
Improvements to the railway path at Meltham are virtually complete and in recognition of the hard work put into this, Kirklees Highways are holding an opening ceremony on May 23.
The improvements to the former railway path include a Tarmac path for
cycling and walking and a special surface in parts for horses.
This improved path forms part of the Kirklees Greenway Network, the success of which has been recognised by Kirklees winning an award for the best greenway in Europe.
Cllr David Hall, Kirklees Cabinet member for Transportation, said: *This improvement work is great. We continue to develop the Kirklees Greenway network which allows people to walk, cycle and ride
their horses around the green spaces in our area.*
This proposed route would use the disused Meltham branch line corridor from Meltham to Lockwood, Huddersfield. A short section of pedestrian and cycle route is already in place from Safeways, Meltham towards Huddersfield Road, Meltham Mills. More info: www.cycletransport-westyorks.co.uk/route_others.htm
