Holmfirth’s Snow Sunday
Posted by patrick under: News .
Light snow was falling again across the Valley this afternoon, Sunday, January 10, with various “snow-watch” emails coming in from Holme, Hade Edge, Shepley and top side of Honley.
Meanwhile, various emailers reported that stocks were holding out at the Co-op Supermarket, which had imposed limits on bread and milk sales, and also atMorrisons, Meltham.
One correspondent, Judith Wray, paid tribute to the co-op stores, as well as the small independent shops, like Andrew’s grocers, Holmfirth, and the nearby Londis. “I was nearly the first in this Sunday morning and expected no bread and milk, but they had everthing, and it was fairly quiet as well. The car park is still full of compacted snow, so take care when parking. Many thanks to the local co-op stores (we also use New Mill) and the little shops for keeping supplies going during the freeze. Everyone forgets but their suppliers, staff and managers have to get to work as well.”
E.Ellis, of Holmfirth, said in an email that the Co-Op was still imposing rationing on essentials – two loaves of bread and six pints of milk per customer. “I think that is very sensible – I have seen some people coming out of the store with enough shopping to last them a year.”
Meanwhile, here is another selection of snow shots snapped during a winger walk earlier this Sunday morning. Its lovely walking around the Valley but wrap up and keep warm!
