Holmfirth Contest for Budding Film Makers

The first Holmfirth Film Festival, (22 – 29 May), is running an exciting short film competition; ‘Beyond the Summer Wine’, for aspiring film makers.
The film festival is looking for quirky and individual short films that are inspired by the people, activities and landscape of the Holme Valley. The film can be a drama, comedy, documentary or an experimental film using action or animation. There are two categories; Up to 10 minutes and a 60 second film, for which you may even use your mobile phone. You can submit as many films as you like; there is no limit. And the competition is free to enter.
Holmfirth is famous for the longest running sitcom, The Last of the Summer Wine. This fondly cherished programme has been running for over 30 years but the festival is keen for film-makers to go beyond these stereotypes with the theme; Beyond the Summer Wine. The films need should show a fresh look at Holmfirth and the Holme Valley and draw inspiration from the outstanding landscape of the area.
The judging panel for the competition is made up of well-known creative people from the area.
Yorkshire’s own Ashley Jackson; he has captured the very essence of Yorkshire in his work throughout his vast career by working within the countryside for inspiration. Jackson has become a very well established watercolour painter, with several famous collectors of his work. Jackson strives to encourage people to appreciate the landscape around them, making him the perfect judge for this competition.
Also on the panel; as a writer, a broadcaster and above all, a film expert, is Tony Earnshaw, the artistic director of the Bradford International Film Festival and the Head of Programming at the National Media Museum.
