Nearly Here – Holmfirth Arts Festival
Posted by patrick under: News .
Only a few more days to go before the major Holmfirth Arts Festival launch which runs from this Saturday June 5 to June 20.
For these two weeks in June you are invited to enjoy the ever-popular art markets, folk, opera and classical music in the centre of Holmfirth, the third “Vanstallation”, a first-rate photography exhibition and even a little bit of Edgar Alan Poe.
Look forward to hilarious comedians Jo Caulfield, Hardeep Singh Kohli, Alex Horne and Toby Hadoke. There are also opportunities to get up close to local artists, Jim Robison, Moz Khokhar, Mick Kirkby-Geddes and Dionne Swift. And you will need to book your seats early to catch in concert one of the U.K.’s leading acoustic guitarists and singers when Martin Simpson brings his trio to Hepworth.
The opening weekend will include:
Saturday 5th – Alex Horne in Wordwatching
Sunday 6th – Art Market
Sunday 6th – Festival Lunchtime Concert
Sunday 6th – Live in Holmfirth
Sunday 6th – Landscapes in Brass
Something to look forward to this year are two days of outdoor music in the middle of Holmfirth with a varied selection of local talent, including:
Old Man Pie – serving up a slice of naive country, anti-folk and pie music from West Yorkshire. www.myspace.com/oldmanpie.
Roger Davies – solo, acoustic singer songwriter taking inspiration from the local landscapes and personal experiences. www.myspace.com/rogerdaviesmusic
Altibajos – seven-piece Cuban-influenced band playing original tunes and latin classics. www.myspace.com/altibajos
Ottersgear – four-piece folk band with a Celtic tinge. www.myspace.com/ottersgear
Buzz Brothers – playing blues and rock.
Jimmy Dare – solo, acoustic singer.
The Zippy Miracle – brand new, young post-punk band. www.myspace.com/thezippymiracle
Owen Phillips – experimental, eclectic folk and acoustic looping …plus many more! www.myspace.com/ophillipsuk
